Dan Brown’s “The Lost Symbol,” Book Review

I have taken some time tonight to pass on my review of Dan Brown’s book, “The Lost Symbol.” As many know it is about the influence of the Freemasons, whom many of our founding fathers were members of, had on the foundation viewpoints of the creation of this country. The ideas of “All men are created equal, pursuit of happiness, religious freedoms, etc.” are all viewpoints of Freemasons and were the bases of what this nation was founded on.

1. No matter at what station or stratification of birth one person had, all are viewed as equal within the Freemasons.

2. Every man has the right to pursue the truth of what is within ones own soul and the evidence obtained from science facts. (The Age of Enlightenment…i.e. Illuminati)

3. No matter if you are of the Jewish faith, Muslim faith, Christian faith, all are well accepted into the Freemasons.

So “NO,” this country was not founded as a Christian Nation as many of the ignorant claim today!

I have enjoyed many of the books Dan Brown has written and as I too am a Freemason, I took great interest in this book.

As many whom have been familiar with my writings in this blog and contributing to others, I have made it very well known how I have spent my life straining to be heard above the din of ignorance.

Below is an excerpt from the book, “The Lost Symbol,” that I found profound, speaking for my thoughts, and saw value in passing it on.

Page 327, 3rd. chapter from the top.
“From the Crusades, to the Inquisition, to American politics, the name Jesus had been hijacked as an ally in all kinds of power struggles. Since the beginning of time, the ignorant had always screamed the loudest, herding the unsuspecting masses and forcing them to do their bidding. They defend their worldly desires by citing Scripture they did not understand. They celebrated their intolerance as proof of their convictions. Now, after all these years, mankind had finally managed to utterly erode everything that had once been so beautiful about Jesus.”

This passage taken from the book sums up current events so true today.

So in conclusion, I highly recommend reading this book, I found it enlightening, educational but keeping in mind it is still fiction so don’t take everything as verbatim of everything that is within the Freemasons. A good easy read and will make a very good movie in the future.

  1. I haven't read The DaVinci Code, though I have a copy in French here, which is going to be a chore for me. I did read Angels and Demons.
On your recommendation, I will read The Lost Symbol. I cannot say that I was more than interested in the Angels And Deamons outside of his skill of mixing religion and sci fi thriller action....It was fun readsing though.
Hios take on Free Masonry might be something he could give more insight to.
Your take on the corruption of the idea of Jesus is not based on recent history.
Ever since the formal establishment of Christianity as a base of temporal power, the more noble selfless aspects of christian philosophy have been repressed.
The monastic orders were founded, for the most part as a reaction to the corruption of "pure religious idealism" They were always viewed with suspicion and by the estblished church until they were coopted and became part of the establishment.
One only has to look at the religious propaganda art fo the middle ages to see the use of fear, bodily pain and threats of eternal damnation and social prejudice to enforce the supression of any overt attempt to even question the churched supreme authority on every mans life.

Armies and nations have destroyed each other, both carrying banners proclaiming that they were gods chosen ones.

Religion has always been the means to accomplish what ever your goals were. The bible can be bent and twisted by any one who wants to claim "higher" knowlege to mean anything they wish........

  2. Great post, Engineer, as well as intriguing. Just last evening, coincidentally, I tuned in the History Channel to watch their analysis of Angels and Demons, the Illuminati and Freemasonry. It went much deeper than Brown's book and was a fascinating expose' of how 'the church' attempted to silence scientists and those who would dare think out of the box [or book].

The paragraph quoted above is spot-on! The line, the name Jesus had been hijacked as an ally in all kinds of power struggles. is particularly relevant these days as the religious right pimp his name so that can accumulate power and drain the wealth from the citizens.

It will be on my Valentine's Day wish list!

  3. Hello Microdot,
I highly recommend reading the Da Vinci Code also but you should read the books in this order. Angles and Demons, Da Vinci Code, then The Lost Symbols.

With Angles and Demons, being the science geek myself, it was the science part that grabbed my interest and I should say the science part is very true.

The NASA SCRAM jet that flew Langdon to Europe in just a few minutes has been developed and is now in the private sector’s hands to develop it into production value products….like the Skunk Works?

In CERN France, Europe’s equal to our Los Alamos, right now is producing the anti-matter hydrogen atom. Its electric magnetic properties are the exact opposite of the hydrogen atom. When the two should meet, you have the total 100% conversion of Mass into Energy. Einstein’s equation, E=MC2 is the basis of this event. It is stored in a cigar tube shaped reversed electro-magnetic field so the anti-matter levitates and does not touch any matter of the tube itself. Hydrogen is the most plentiful substance in the Universe. I did a paper on this many years ago.

With the Da Vinci Code, I could not put it down and is sooooo much better than Opie Taylor did it justice to the point he did not include important parts that were critical to the story line. I feel that Ron Howard was walking on egg shells so as not to make angry not only the Catholics but any of the Christian religious crowd.

    Hello Muddy,
One of my over the air digital PBS channels is called, WORLD, and is much like combining the History Channel of Discovery Channel. I came upon a segment of a program talking about how Uber Religion forces of the Renaissance / Inquisition period have for years tried to repress medical advancement. One example was using a cadaver to teach medical students the human anatomy. The school room would be built on a pier over a river. The operating table was designed to flip upside down with a farm animal strapped on the underneath side. If during a lesson the Religious Police should barge in to arrest the instructor and students of committing crimes against God for cutting up a dead human body to learn their skills, the instructor would simply flip the table over, bring the sheep or goat, etc. and the dead human body would fall into the river to have the currents carry the evidence away.

Today we have the same forces ranting about how stem cell research is a crime against God, etc.

  4. The lost symbol was overall a very captivating book. It was well written as well as it had many facts and symbolism about freemasonry that I found interesting. The plot of the book was also original; it included multiple twists and an unexpected endings.
The bad part about the book was the way it was written. The author forces suspense on the reader based on how he structures the book. First, he switches points of view through each chapter. He would then cycle through the characters. This would be fine except during each chapter's climax, Brown would suddenly shut down the chapter and go to the next. Because of this, you'd have to read another 2-3 chapters before the climax hit and ended. I personally do not like this because he's almost forcing you to read on.
