I learned in the early part of my career that labor must bear the cross for others' sins, must be the vicarious sufferer for the wrongs that others do.This statement was true 100 years ago…..and still true today. In retrospect….nothing has really changed has it?
The difference is that the catastrophes happen faster now.
ReplyDeleteVery true, but unfortunately, free market types and conservatives have almost pushed us back to a pre-labor union stage. Time for a big resurgence of labor unions, only this time ones that are less corrupt and self-serving!
ReplyDeleteI am curious as to how many people know who Mother Jones was--especially Republicans. Lefties do since there is the Magazine.
ReplyDeleteHey, this is the best post to ask this: with REINCE PRIEBUS announcing that one can't be a Republican if they believe in things such as:
pro-abortion, pro-stimulus, pro-GM bailout, pro-AIG
???

US politics is getting more and more EXCLUSIVE.
Hello NewEnglandBod,
ReplyDeleteTrue….very true. The world and it’s happenings are expondential!!
Hello Jack,
The loss of labor unions in this country (“Because they went too far,” as some would say) has allowed corruption of what was once accepted as normal and stead fast such as 40 hour week with anything over as being overtime or anything over 8 hours per day, double time for Sundays or Holidays, etc but for many in the working class today, this has no longer true……Companies are once again having their turn of GOING TOO FAR!!
Hello Laci,
You bring up a good point and the reason for this post. Mother Jones work hard to Coal Miners Rights in West Virginia and such but her legacy has faded with time.
As I have stated many times, I am a Moderiate / Liberal Republican and the Republican Party today is not anything I support. I did not leave the Republican Party…..they left me!! I have heard of the litmus test of “being a true Republican” and I say to those, KISS MY ASS!! I was here long before them and will be a thorn in their ASS for years to come!!
Good post, Engineer, and a timely reminder that 'the worker' has always had to fight the tycoons- even risking being beaten or killed to gain some human dignity. Toledo has seen several major labor-business fights with labor holding its ground for fair wages, decent hours and healthy working conditions. Is that too much to ask for?
ReplyDeleteI hope you can change them, but I think both US parties are not the parties of the common person.
